About Us.
We found an unfussy, industrial treasure in south Seattle, gave it love, and made it into SODO Urbanworks. Briefly known as City Commerce Business Park, these high birch ceilings now house some of the best drinks, food and people in Washington. Whether a celebration, formal gathering, or winding down after work, SODO Urbanworks is sure to please. Be sure to bring laughs and a fresh pallet for various tastings. Behind the scenes, we’re genuine friends creating a soulful space for all to enjoy.
Here’s some history.
For much of its life, the four square miles or so in the heart of Seattle was simply known as “the industrial area”. It took a journalist, a marketing campaign, and time to popularize the name SODO – as in “south of the dome”, a nod to the old King Dome.
1890s
In SODO’s infancy, the neighborhood consisted of buildings and train tracks elevated over the water.
1950s
The SODO that we know today begins to develop, including the area’s first major sporting venue – the King Dome.
1980s
The area cements itself as an eclectic district, located between Downtown Seattle, the port of Seattle and major sports venues.
